Character Information
Name: Petra Ral
Age: Undefined in canon. Likely/appears to be early 20’s.
Fandom: Attack on Titan
Appearance: Petra has shoulder length, light orange-auburn hair with honey colored eyes. She’s very petit, especially when compared to the others on the S.O.S. She even measures a few centimeters shorter than famously tiny corporal Levi. Petra normally wears a beige jacket with the Scouting Legion symbol on the back over a white button up shirt. The outfit contains various straps that different equipment, such as 3D maneuver gear, can be attached to.
History: (Petra doesn’t have any particularly descriptive wiki links. Hope you don’t mind a short summary!)
Petra is a member of the Special Operations Squad, (Hereto forth referred to as the S.O.S.) a group of soldiers from the Scouting Division hand-picked by Lance Corporal Levi. They venture outside the walls to gain intel on the Titans that threaten to break down the walls of their homeland and overrun the last of the human race.
Petra participates in the battle of Trost after a colossal titan once again breaks down the walls. It is then that a boy that can shift into a titan, Eren Jaegar, is discovered. After the incident, a court ruling decides that Eren is to be placed within the custody of Levi and the Scouting Legion. Petra seems to take to Eren much more quickly than the rest of the squad, always acting kindly towards him, answering his questions, and otherwise showing him the ropes for life with the S.O.S. Although when practicing his titan shifting, Eren accidentally activates it at the wrong time (while picking up a spoon at lunchtime to be precise) and ends up forming the muscle and skeleton of his titan form’s arm. This greatly frightens Petra and the other members of the S.O.S., causing them each to brandish their swords at him. After the misunderstanding, Petra and the others felt bad for their sudden hostility toward Eren. They each bite into their hand, mimicking what Eren must do each time he wishes to become a titan. Finding that the action hurts quite a bit, they decide to trust Eren as someone who truly only wants to help human kind.
In their first mission outside the walls since Eren joined them, Petra and the others are tasked with simply going to the next wall and returning. Petra and the S.O.S. were charged with guarding Eren through the duration of the trip. Eventually, Eren is found and chased down by an extremely dangerous female titan. After losing various soldiers as they are chased down, Eren expresses his desire to titan shift and fight the female titan head on. However, Petra urges him to go with the plan and to trust her and his other comrades. Just as the female titan catches up to him, she is captured with a plan devised by Scouting Legion Commander Irvin. It doesn’t last long, however. As the female titan is revealed to be another titan shifter, she uses the other titans in the area to create an opportunity to escape. Reappearing in her titan form after killing S.O.S. member Gunter, the female titan again comes after Eren. Choosing to believe in his comrades, Eren allows Petra, Erd, and Auruo to face down the female titan while he escapes. Fighting valiantly, they manage to blind the female titan and nearly succeed in taking it down due to their incredible teamwork. However when they’re thrown off guard by how quickly it regenerates one of its eyes, Erd is killed and Petra is thrown into a panic. Unable to adjust her 3D maneuver gear, Petra loses control of her movements and is kicked into a tree by the female titan, crushing and killing her.
Canon Point: Before entering the forest and engaging the female titan.
Personality: If it weren’t for the fact that she kills giant naked humanoids on a regular basis, Petra would come off as a rather normal, kind girl. Seemingly unchanged by the harsh environment around her, Petra treats others with kindness and keeps a generally gentle attitude. Petra is also rather sentimental, often mailing letters to her Father about what is happening with her in the Scouting Legion. Her Father notes that these letters often contained many words of praise and admiration towards Levi, showing how high of esteem she holds herself and her teammates (Levi of course, in particular.)
Her kindness is exemplified in the way she treats Eren, someone who is labeled a monster by the government and is forced to stay in the dungeon like a pariah. From the moment she meets him she is nothing but accepting of him, happily speaking to him about Levi and the Scouting Legion and never looking down at him for what he is. She welcomes and treats Eren exactly the same as she would any other new comrade.
That isn’t to say Petra is perfectly nice all of the time. She rarely stands for Auruo’s snide and rude comments, even joking that she would’ve liked that he died upon biting his tongue and elbowing him in the chest as well as getting annoyed by his constant mimicking of Levi. Petra also shares the same palpable rage towards the titans that the majority of humankind shows. Her kindness and trust isn’t necessarily unconditional, evident in the fact that she still bears her swords at Eren in a moment of fear the first time he partly transforms into a titan in front of her.
After that she does learn to trust him completely, however, and we learn just how important trust is to her. She’s brought to tears when Eren tells her he wants to fight the female titan himself, meaning he didn’t trust that she and the others could keep him safe and defend him from the female titan. Urging him to trust her, he eventually accepts. When battling the female titan, Eren notes that the incredible fight Petra and the others put up is due to their enormous trust in each others actions. This wasn’t necessarily the best thing for her, however. Confident and brave as she was, the choice the urge Eren to trust her is what ultimately gets herself and two of her comrades killed.
The fight with the female did more than just exemplify her trust in her comrades, but also showed off her ferocity as a soldier. Not that much more needs to be said after her astounding total kill count of 58 titans (the highest total of the S.O.S. sans Levi who likely has a higher count), most of which are kills as a team. Hand picked by Levi, its obvious that she is the part of the best of the best in the Scouting Legion. Even with her kind, caring personality she’s just as deadly as the strongest of soldiers. She has extreme confidence in her abilities shown in the willingness she has to face off against the deadly, rampaging female titan. Petra is a kind, sweet person, but as someone fighting back against the extinction of mankind, she has a very necessary serious and fierce side to her that comes out in times of crisis. She’s just another person fighting valiantly against the titans day in and day out, in the hopes that some day maybe a sense of normalcy can return to life, and she and the other could finally know peace.
Game Specific
Suitability: Petra is extremely suitable for the violent environment of Santa Destroy given what she must face on a daily basis in her home world. Petra has seen more than her fair share of bloodshed, mangled corpses, and scenes of horrific destruction in her many battles with the Titans. Though never engaging any actual humans (at least in human bodies) she is in a near constant state of combat in her excursions as a member of the Scouting Legion. With a kill record of 58 titans (48 while in a team and 10 by herself) it’s clear this environment would be suitable to someone who is already experienced in combat and crises.
Weapon: A twin pair of swords (though not forged in the way they are in their home world, resulting in them not being quite so hyper sharp.) as well as a rig similar to her 3D maneuvers gear(A rig that allows her to latch onto objects with hook shot on ropes that she can then swing from), but with a very limited use capacity before needing to be refilled, as well as limited ranged for swinging around.

Wasn’t she in the forest? Petra raised her hand up to her face, waving it for confirmation that this was indeed happening. She reaffirms that each limb is still attached and that her body is in good shape. Going unconscious outside the walls usually means an altercation with a titan, which could always mean dismemberment if not death. Thankfully for Petra, everything was just as she left it. Still, that didn’t make this situation okay. How did she get her? What happened to Eren and Levi? What is that device spinning around on the ceiling?
“Levi…Eren! Auruo, Erd, Gunther!”
Darting around though they were, her eyes found nothing but emptiness in the strange room before her. Standing up, she slowly realized that this place was nothing like anywhere she had ever been. Opening the door only confirmed her suspicions that she was certainly nowhere within the walls. Not only could she not see them, but also the architecture and layout was so drastically different. If you aren’t in the walls, you’re outside them, which could only mean one thing: Titans. Immediately seeking the highest ground she could, both to stay safe from titans as well as get a good look at her surroundings, she climbs up atop the motel. Climbing a two story or so building wasn’t a big deal, but what was a big deal was the sight before her: People, and not a wall or titan in sight.
Awed, hushed words escaped her mouth as if speaking of the perverse, “What is all of this…?”
Petra climbed down as quickly as she could, entering the bizarre room she awoke in, this time finding the items left for her on the desk. Pouring over the letter, it just didn’t make any sense, all it provided her was a dull pain in her chest. Her mind couldn’t wrap around the words on the page. She was selected? Santa Destroy? None of it made any sense, and truthfully she didn’t want it to. Was this a dream? Or had someone really taken her? No no, that was impossible.
Gripping the device left on the desk much more tightly than she realized, she let it drop to the floor.
“How long until I wake up in some titans stomach, I wonder?” Petra jabbed her thumb into her forehead, trying to steady a body that was losing its composure at an alarming rate. How do you explain something like this if it isn’t a dream?
“No no, I can’t be thinking like that. I need to…get back. Or find out where I really am, and what happened to Levi and the others…” her eyes fixed themselves on the door again. A few silent minutes passed, and her panic wore off. You wake up from dreams, don’t you? Which only meant that reality was on the other side of that door. When you’re not dreaming, there isn’t time to dawdle, and she needed to collect herself despite the bizarreness of the situation. The letter was brought back up to her face, making a better effort to decipher the truth behind it.

Dear Father,
I know it hasn’t been long since my last letter, but so many things are happening lately I couldn’t afford to miss out on the opportunity to tell you about it. You are safe, are you not? I’m sure you’ve heard all about what happened with the hole in the wall, and I can’t express enough how glad I am to know you’re safe. Worry not; your little girl is safe and sound as ever. You didn’t raise me to go down easy, now!
I did lose a lot of friends, but I’m trying to move on quickly. Members of the Scouting Legion must be ever vigilant. Levi has beaten that into my head enough by now.
Speaking of Levi, I got to see another example of his devotion to humanity the other day. He really is an amazing man, Father. Being able to work under a man like that, he truly makes me feel as though I’m contributing to mankind. If nothing else gives me hope for tomorrow, Levi is someone I can always rely on. He does whatever it takes. He doesn’t budge, doesn’t hesitate. Quite honestly Father, he’s every bit as terrifying as he is inspiring. It’s quite the feeling to be around that man! That’s only in these serious situations, however. I’m sure you’d find him to be quite the peculiar man if you knew him like I do.
That is enough gushing about the Corporal, though. I would hate for you to get the wrong idea, after all. Perhaps you’d like to know that we have a new member amongst our ranks? Though he is a special case and much younger than the rest of us, I’ve truthfully been enjoying having him around. I probably shouldn’t talk about him too much for reasons I sadly am unable to specify to you, but I assure you he is a kind soul with a will of iron. I’ve been doing my best to make him feel welcome, but I’m sure you can imagine how that is going with that dope Auruo around! Having him around has made the atmosphere quite lively though! I’ll try to teach him as much as I can while we have him. Hopefully the boys can learn to play nice. I’m certainly not anybody’s mother! I trust all will be well before long, though I do find myself a tad nervous.
I’ll be sure to visit you the next opportunity I get, Father. It has been all too long since our last Father-Daughter day, hasn’t it? Even in these chaotic times, I can always count on you for a smile, can’t I Father? You’ll have me back at the house before you know it!
Love, Petra.
